I am so happy to introduce myself as the new Family Liaison for the Cedar Grove-Belgium School District. I wanted to take the time to give you a little background on myself and the position within the school. This is an exciting new way to not only help you as the parents or guardians feel more supported, but to continue to grow our relationships with the teaching staff and support personnel who interact with our children each day.
My family and I have lived in Belgium for the past four years. My husband and I have four children, Wyatt is 7 and in 2nd grade, King is 6 and in 1st, Rhett is 6 and in the 5k/Special Education combination program and Finn is 4 and in 4k. We were first introduced into the world of support and special needs when both King and Rhett needed birth-to-three services. Since then we have continued with support through IEPs, outside therapies, specialists and various tests. While I am not an expert in any field, I am starting to get to know the various areas of support for families and am eager to share this information with all of you.
When I began working with the school as a volunteer in Rhett’s Early Childhood classroom I found that I had information to share and wanted to support other parents in their journeys with their children. After speaking with Tamra O’Keefe the Director of Special Education we decided that a position of Family Liaison would benefit not only the parents of our school district but also the support staff. As the Liaison I am here to support parents or guardians through a variety of ways. I am willing to share my personal experiences with a variety of services and also connect you to any other resources you may be interested in or needing for your child. I am supported by the CESA 1 and CESA 7 staff for a variety of services and support throughout the Belgium and Cedar Grove communities. I will work to pass on any family training and functions going on in our areas that will continue to help you feel encouraged. My strongest hope for this position is to help parents or guardians feel that they are not alone in this journey, and that there are people and outside supports that are there to work with them and their child for the best possible outcome.
I hope you will continue to reach out to me.
